Public Housing

The Houston Housing Authority is the local administrator of the federal Low-Rent Public Housing Program and the Housing Choice Voucher Program (formerly Section 8), as well as other housing, homeownership and self-sufficiency programs for low- to moderate-income families, seniors and persons with disabilities within the City of Houston. The agency's programs provide affordable homes and services to more than 60,000 low-income Houstonians, including over 17,000 families housed through the Housing Choice Voucher Program and another 5,500 living in 25 public housing and tax credit developments around the city.
